TikTok is being sued by two former moderators for psychological trauma. Two former TikTok content reviewers, have filed a lawsuit against the video-focused social networking platform. It is being accused of neglecting to provide adequate support as they undertake task. Taking down these kinds of troublesome videos from the platform.
The case, which was originally reported by American Media News Company, NPR, was filed in a Federal court on Thursday, February 24th, 2022.
According to the petitioners, Ashley Velez and Reece Young, they were hired by TikTok on a contract. It’s for regulate TikTok material with the help of third-party businesses Telus International and Atrium. However, the duo is filing a class-action lawsuit alongside other TikTok content moderators. And claiming that the company’s tactics have harmed them.
Also Velez and Young with adequate mental health support despite the mental risks. That is the “abnormally dangerous activities”. The lawsuit also claims that, the firms force moderators to review. This is the large volumes of extreme content in order to meet quotas. Exacerbating the injury by requiring them to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). And that prevent them from lawfully discussing what they saw.
According to the lawsuit:
“Defendants have failed to establish a safe working environment. The tens of thousands of contractors as gatekeepers between the unfiltered, vile, and offensive. This content submitted to the App and the hundreds of millions of people.”
Here, two former moderators for psychological trauma. They claiming that despite knowing the psychological risks of prolonged exposure. The companies made no effort to provide. “Appropriate ameliorative measures” to help workers cope with it after the fact.
In the suit, the petitioners detailed how they both had to work. Twelve-hour days examining violent, frightening information. Such as “child sexual assault, rape, torture, bestiality, beheadings, and suicide” in the claim.
