A first look at how a Ukrainian finance business is living in the midst of war. The military action by Russia against Ukraine lasted about two months. During that time, all sectors of the economy, including IT. It has been forced to support the military.
Ukrainian IT did not fail; it shrank slightly. But it is still standing, producing jobs, paying taxes, arranging humanitarian aid, and assisting the Ukrainian army.
Here are a few crucial aspects that have aided Ukrainian IT’s survival, as well as our own:
Companies began preparing for war even before it began.
Long before the war began, the media speculated about the potential of a conflict. Despite everyone’s best wishes, Ukrainians recognized that they had a neighbor who may attack at any time. With this in mind, many IT firms began to prepare for disasters and form contingency teams. When the conflict broke out on February 24, preparations greatly aided our ability to preserve unity.
Our organization formed an emergency squad. Whose primary responsibility was to ensure that our personnel were accommodated and transported out of risky areas.
The COVID-19 pandemic compelled businesses to go digital.
The ability to operate remotely aided IT specialists greatly throughout the conflict. During evacuations, people worked in bomb shelters, basements, vehicles, and trains. It was not a major issue for them.
Our workflow was not significantly impacted due to the availability of several digital tools and programs.
Employees are being sent to safer cities.
It is difficult to leave your country and rapidly transition into life elsewhere. Thus many people chose to stay in safe areas of Ukraine. Several million Ukrainians moved from eastern to western Ukraine. They settled in places such as Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lutsk, Rivne, and Uzhhorod.
IT firms did everything possible to assist their staff in relocating. Some people paid for their own relocation, while others rented apartments. The biggest firms even set 24-hour hotlines to assist with evacuation plans and psychological support.
We assisted employees from the east in relocating, rented a hostel in Lviv, and urges people to reside there with their families in the early weeks of the conflict.
