Hackers attempted to shut down substations at one of the country’s main energy companies. Resulting in blackouts for two million people.

The computer virus employed in the attack is identical to that utilized by Russian hackers. It is earlier attacks on Kyiv that resulted in power outages.

Sandworm, a Russian military outfit, is thought to be involved, according to researchers.

It is the most serious cyber-attack against Ukraine since Russia invaded the country.

“It appears that we were really fortunate to be able to respond to this on time.”

Mr. Zhora noted Eset and Microsoft researchers for their assistance in identifying. Blocking the harmful software used in the attack.

Eset claimed it worked together with Ukraine’s cyber authority “to fix. And to secure this important infrastructure network” in a statement.

“The collaboration resulted in the detection of a new form of Industroyer virus. Which we called Industroyer2 with the help of [Ukrainian cyber authority] Cert-UA,” it said.

The piece of malware known as Industroyer was used in 2016 to take down power substations in Kyiv for around an hour.
